The Spanish Football Confederation stressed its commitment to hold the King’s Cup final match with a full public presence, even if that means postponing the match until next year.
Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad were supposed to meet in the King’s Cup final, but the match was postponed indefinitely due to the outbreak of the new Corona virus.
The Spanish Football Association said in a statement on Monday: We fully agree with the desire of Athletic and Real Sociedad to hold the match when the health and sporting atmosphere allow it, in the presence of all the fans who wish to attend.
UEFA has hinted at the necessity of holding the King’s Cup final before the third of August to determine the identity of the finalist for the next edition of the European League.
And in case of responding to UEFA’s desire, this means that it will be the first time in history that the King’s Cup final will be held without an audience.
Bilbao and Sociedad want to play the final in the presence of the fans.
The Football Association statement said: We appreciate the decision and the joint request of the two clubs, and we will clarify the necessary regulatory mechanisms for the establishment of the final at an appropriate date during the year 2020 or 2021.
