Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – A report revealed the world’s most expensive cities to live in 2020, ranking first 3 different destinations in Asia.
Hong Kong, Singapore and the Japanese city of Osaka tied each other to occupy the first positions of the most expensive cities on the list for 2020, according to a survey of the Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2020 Worldwide Cost of Living.
The Japanese city of Osaka occupies the first place in Paris, which makes the entire Asian trilogy the first on the list this year.
New York ranked fourth, and Los Angeles ranked eight. The report explains that this is driven by “strong local currency and steady domestic demand”, which has led to higher prices for clothing and local assistance.
The semi-annual survey has been evaluating the cost of more than 160 goods and services in 133 cities around the world for more than 30 years.
The French capital also fell to fifth place, equal to another European city, the Swiss city of Zurich.
The survey indicates a clear trend across 37 European cities that have been surveyed, all but four, namely Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Istanbul and Kiev, fell in the rankings in 2020.
And Tel Aviv, the only city in the Middle East, was among the top ten, with 3 centers rising to the seventh position, due to higher transportation costs, according to the “EIU” survey.
Geneva, Switzerland, fell from fifth to tenth, while Copenhagen fell completely out of the top ten, after it was seventh.
The Syrian capital, Damascus, was at the bottom of the world rankings, followed by the city of Tashkent in Uzbekistan.
