After talking about the North Korean leader performing dangerous surgery … Trump: I hope he’s okay

ATLANTA, United States (CNN) – US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he does not know whether North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is ill, but he nevertheless wished to be okay.

This came on the sidelines of the briefing of the Corona epidemic cell from the White House, Tuesday (local time).

When asked about Kim’s condition, Trump added, “I can only say this, I hope it’s okay … Good luck, may God bless you.”

A US official with direct knowledge of the matter told CNN on Monday that the United States is monitoring intelligence that indicates the North Korean leader is in great danger, after undergoing surgery.

A second source with knowledge of the information added to CNN that the United States is closely monitoring Kim’s health reports.

Kim recently missed his grandfather’s birthday on April 15, sparking speculation about his safety. He was seen four days earlier at a government meeting.

Trump, who has met Kim personally three times, including one in the Korean Demilitarized Zone, said they have forged strong ties.

And Trump said: “I had a good relationship with him.”

Trump has previously described “falling in love” with Kim and exchanged glowing speeches as confirming their unusual relationship.

The US president said last week that he had received a “nice note” from Kim recently, adding: “I think we’re fine.”

Later, Pyongyang denied that Kim sent a letter to Trump, accusing him of evoking the personal relationship “for selfish purposes.”

The effects of friendship diplomacy are mixed. North Korea has not taken concrete steps to abandon its nuclear program and has continued to test missiles.

In response to a question, on Tuesday, whether he would try to contact Kim during the recovery period, Trump said he might do so. He explained: “Maybe … I just hope he’s fine.”
