BEIJING, China (CNN) – The Chinese government announced, Thursday, that it will close its borders to most foreigners, as of Saturday, as part of its measures to curb the spread of the new Corona virus, in light of the increasing number of registered infections for people coming from abroad, after the country announced its success. In containing the virus that began to emerge in Wuhan last December.

According to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry and the National Immigration Authority of China, foreigners who currently hold Chinese residence visas or permits will be prevented from entering the country temporarily until further notice.

The Chinese government suspended all transit and visa programs upon landing without a visa, with people holding diplomatic passports exempted from the new rule.

The statement added that foreign citizens who must visit China out of necessity need to apply for new visas, and holders of Chinese visas issued after Thursday will be allowed to enter the country.

Chinese authorities had announced the containment of the outbreak of the new Corona virus, months after the outbreak in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

The number of new cases of coronavirus in China decreased during the past week, while cases of cases coming from abroad were recorded.

China leads, despite containing the spread of the disease, the list of countries in terms of infection with the virus by 81 thousand and 782 cases, while ranking third in the world in death numbers after Italy and China with 3 thousand and 291 deaths, Thursday, according to statistics of Johns Hopkins University.
